Headhunter Diaries ~ Wee! 1st Candidate Interview!

I am flat worn out. This week has been very tiring for me with playing basketball, volleyball, work, etc. Goodness I’ve not even had much time to play Punch Out on the VC! hehe No excuses for not posting though so here’s what’s been going on this week (mostly today).

I had my first on site candidate/client interview today. I actually found the candidate in our database and was able to interview and screen her pretty fast a couple of weeks ago. Then yesterday I was able to prep the candidate for the interview and give her directions to the client’s office.  Today my director met her (the candidate) over at our client’s offices to introduce her to the people that would be interviewing her. After the interview my candidate called me to say that she thought things went well, felt comfortable, a good company she’d like to work for, etc. Hopefully tomorrow we’ll get some feedback from our client on what they liked or disliked about my candidate.

This is where it gets kinda funky. We get tasked by our clients to find the right person for the job. So, based on job description (that many times we help write up) we find the necessary people to screen and talk to. If they pass the screen test and a basic interview with the recruiter (in that case, me) then we proceed to present them to the client. If the client likes our candidate then things move towards either a phone or in-person interview (or both). Hopefully our candidates will present themselves well in person and the client will like them. After the interview we try to solicit feedback from the client to find out what they liked and didn’t like about our candidate.  The Utopian dream would be that they interview and give an offer to the first candidate we present. That would be ideal and I would be very happy. Alas, usually the first candidate becomes some sort of guinea pig to test the waters and find out what the client really wants. Then based on feedback we change our search parameters. Rinse and repeat until an offer is made. Sometimes this can go on for a while, sometimes it moves forward very fast.

It’s not rocket science but there is some science to the whole process. If this candidate doesn’t work out I have some more in the queue to submit we’ll just have to see what happens. Overall I was pretty stoked about it today. Keeps the motivation factor going up!
