Headhunter Diaries ~ Oops. Didn’t Think About That…
Well, my 2nd week is going by in a blur it seems. Still enjoying it so no problems there. I’m getting more comfortable on the phone and it’s relatively easy for me to pick up the phone and dial a total stranger. I’m even getting my intros out pretty decently and learning to ask the right questions at the same time.
What I haven’t done so well, and I learned that today, is that I need to get more information from a candidate without giving them too much information. See, in this business knowledge is key. The more you know about a candidate or client the better opportunity you have to place them in a good position. The more the candidate knows about you and the customer the easier it is for them to make a better decision.
I was able to listen in on a conference call to a candidate from one of our company Directors today. I had done some initial talking/screening with this candidate and thought I got all the right answers, but alas, I was in for a learning lesson! He (our Director) was able to engage and talk to the candidate and give him information that the candidate needed while at the same time was able to get information from the candidate that I haven’t been able to or haven’t thought about to get. It was a great learning experience and I’m now trying to apply some of those tips and techniques to my methods.
Mentoring others in this industry is a key to success. Everyone has their own specific techniques and methods but there are some things that are just basic. It’s like playing basketball. There are the fundamentals - dribbling, shooting, passing and then there are the advanced and unique things a player does - no look passes, different shooting techniques, etc. Recruiting is the same and I’m glad to have very experienced players helping me learn and grow in this business.
